Mayor Minute

Mayor Blake Lay

Be proud of our hometown: Lawrenceburg

I read a quote recently that caused me to pause for a moment and think about Lawrenceburg from a different perspective: “Be proud of your hometown. It’s a big part of what makes you the person you are.” This is so true! I am certainly who I am because Lawrenceburg is my hometown. But…life is busy, and we can get caught up in all that life throws at us on a daily basis, sometimes failing to recognize the endless reasons to be proud of the place we call home—Lawrenceburg.

Therefore, this “Mayor Minute” and the next one will focus on good things that have happened recently or are currently happening in Lawrenceburg.

If you have driven around town lately, I’m sure you have seen some new construction and maybe wondered what’s all the buzz.

  • On the north side of town on Highway 43, a 64-room Best Western Select Hotel is being built and is projected to be complete this fall.
  • On the corner of Geri Street and Massey Avenue,  Faith Church is building a new church home that will seat 1,000 people.
  • Stettar’s Restaurant located on Geri Street opened a few months ago and is doing well.
  • Society American Nosherie Restaurant relocated to the Lawrenceburg Square after renovating the old White’s Department Store building.
  • The sidewalk renovation project on the Lawrenceburg Square is coming along as scheduled, and when it’s complete, our historic Square will be accessible to all of our citizens and our visitors because it will be American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant.

All of these wonderful things happening around town bring visitors to Lawrenceburg, and visitors generate revenue through sales tax, Lawrenceburg’s number one revenue source.

Despite the negative impact the pandemic has had on the country, Lawrenceburg’s sales tax is currently up 10.6 percent, proof that shopping locally is important to the economic stability and growth of our community.

I really appreciate Lawrence County School System’s motto, “Find the Good and Praise It” because it’s applicable in any situation. Let’s do that with our hometown. Let’s find the good and praise it. Therefore, if you are aware of good things happening in Lawrenceburg, I want to know about them. Please call the city at 931-762-4459, or send a message on Facebook@CityofLawrenceburg,TN.

Please watch for the next Mayor Minute to learn about more great things happening in Lawrenceburg—our hometown.
