Public Works

Mission

Department Manager Jerry Smith says, It's our Number 1 priority to serve the public - keeping our streets safe and well-maintained. Transportation on our city streets is an important part of our daily life, as we travel to work, school, shopping, and other destinations. Our well-trained employees are working hard to serve the public professionally and efficiently.

The Public Works Department's mission is to provide ongoing maintenance services necessary to protect the City's more than 120 miles of roads. Examples of maintenance services include:

  • Installation and/or repair of potholes and other street failures
  • Parks and Recreation and Sanitation vehicles and equipment
  • Pavement markings
  • Removal of tree limbs over and in the right of ways
  • Right-of-way mowing
  • Routine maintenance and repair service to existing drainage systems within the City's right-of-way to minimize flooding and property damage
  • Sidewalk repair
  • Small drainage repairs
  • Street signs

Salting/Cleaning City Streets

  • Limited use of salt on secondary and side roads
  • Only key areas and intersections are salted during heavy snow events
