Department Manager Jerry Smith says, "It's our Number 1 priority to serve the public - keeping our streets safe and well-maintained. Transportation on our city streets is an important part of our daily life, as we travel to work, school, shopping, and other destinations. Our well-trained employees are working hard to serve the public professionally and efficiently."

The Public Works Department's mission is to provide ongoing maintenance services necessary to protect the City's more than 120 miles of roads. Examples of maintenance services include: 

·         Installation and / or repair of potholes and other street failures

·         Curbs and gutters

·         Sidewalk repair

·         Pavement markings

·         Street signs

·         Removal of tree limbs over and in the right of ways

·         Right-of-way mowing

·         Small drainage repairs

·         Routine maintenance and repair service to existing drainage systems within the City's right-of-way to minimize flooding and property damage.

·         Fleet maintenance on all of DPW’s, Parks & Recreation and Sanitations vehicles and equipment.

Salting City Streets

·         Only key areas and intersections are salted during heavy snow events

·         Limited use of salt on secondary and side roads

Street Sweeping please keep all vehicles off the street when possible to allow proper cleaning of the street.

Projects in parks, municipal grounds, open spaces, medians and streets

Public Works maintains all City parks and the following property: mowing, field preparation, field maintenance, lighting, playgrounds, building maintance and grounds

·         4 Field Youth & Adult Softball

·         2 Lighted Soccer Fields

·         1 Practice Football Field

·         1 Babe Ruth Baseball Field

·         Outdoor Swimming Pool

·         Basketball Gyms

·         Picnic Areas and Shelters

·         Outdoor Basketball Courts

·         Practice ball fields

·         Playgrounds

·         18 Hole Disc Golf Course

·         Veterans Memorial Park: campground, walking trail

·         Richardson Park: Playground and Basketball Courts

·         Brannon Street Park: Playground, 2 practice tee ball fields

·         Hope Springs Park:  Continuation of Disc Golf Course from Scout Park

·         Simms Park: Picnic Shelter and Basketball Court

·         David Crockett Cabin

·         E.O. Coffman Football FIeld

·         Fairside Playground and Gazebo

·         Crockett Theatre

·         Mimosa Cemetery

·         Lawrenceburg Public Square
